Lord, You have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. Surely I have a delightful inheritance. ( Psalm 16 ; 3-4)

We often used to sing the old hymn when we were small: Count your blessings , name them one by one, count your many blessings and see what God has done. It is god to meditate on all the good things that God has caused in your life.

The greatest blessing that God has given to any person is, however, not a gift, an opportunity or even assistance. The incomprehensibly great gift is God Himself! He is immeasurably greater than any gift. In fact, He is greater than the sum total of all His good gifts. Even if He never gave us any other gifts, it would still be worth it to seek Him. It would be worthwhile if we had only Him and yet never received any of the other gifts.

David, who wrote today's psalm, was king: he was powerful; successful; rich and popular. In his reign the kingdom extended farther than under any other king at any other time. Calculated in human terms, he had everything. Nonetheless, all the success did not mean as much to him as God Himself. David knew that in God's hands his future was secure, in spite of any problems he might encounter.

If Jesus Christ is your Redeemer and Savior, if He is more precious to you than anything else, like David you can be certain that your future is secure. It does not matter whether or not you have all the good things of life as long as you have Jesus! You have accepted Him and you have received blessings from His hand. So trustingly place your future in His hands and let Him work out His sovereign will in your life.
